Off the hook until 2012
Being my day off, I rose late today, and began making the most important decision of the day-what should I have for breakfast. One requirement of all my breakfasts on days off is that they involve eggs. I love eggs, thus I love the idea of omelette's. The problem is that I don't like the actual omelet at all (at least the omelette's I make), only the idea of an omelet. It just sounds so good, like a calzone, but with a fluffy egg crust. About five years ago I figured out that I don't like the omelette's I make. I then stopped trying to convince myself to like them and simply stopped making them altogether. It has taken me five years to forget why I didn't like them and to re-convince myself that an omelet would taste good. So I made one this morning with red bell peppers, mesquite turkey, onions, cheese, Tobasco, and salsa. I love all of these things independently, but together the reaction was quite the opposite. The way I figure it I have now relieved myself of the need to make another omelet for five years. Hopefully 2012 will yield better results, I want to like omelette's oh so badly.

Ok, first, why the apostrophes? "Omelette's"? It belongs to Mr. Omelette?
Second: you should take this as a challenge issued by the omelette gods and hone your skills. Become the ultimate omelette maker. The Iron Omelette Chef, if you will.
Yes, somebody has finally voiced what I having been yearning to say for some time now. I don't really care for omelettes either.
I have to agree. I really love eggs (in pastries, scambled, custards, etc.) but there's something about cooked egg on the outside and slimy egg on the inside mixed in with all the fillin's that is not appetizing.
How about a fritata? (I've decided to try making fritatas in place of omelettes.)
is that really a photo you took? it looks like a professional photo! and ANYWAY omlettes can be killers especially with mad egg disease in the Uk. avoid at all costs.
Good point on the apostrophes, I think they crept in due to a combination of my inablity to spell omelette and the spell checker's suggestions.
I had no idea that my musings on omelettes would bring out such ire toward those quesadilla wannabees.
And for the record, the pic is not of the omelette I made, unfortunately.
dolce vita: if your omelettes are coming out nice and cooked on the outside but slimy on the inside, they're too thick or the heat is too high on the pan. Really yummy French omelettes should be similar to crepes, but more egg-y. THOSE are yummy. :) Not the thick, nasty Denny's style omelette.
You really need to learn how to make an omelette before you totally discount them. I've succeeded once in my life and it was delicious... because there is a very specific technique to actually cooking the egg before the middle bits go in. This involves tipping the pan at appropriate times and making sure the omelette egg mixture is also appropriate...
They're worth the third effort, methinks. So, before you make them next in 2012, do a bit of reading-up on the subject.
